AIA International Symposium - Conference

"Reducing the weight of 3D-printed acoustic metamaterials"

AIA International Symposium, "Innovative Materials in Acoustics: Between Sustainability and Technology" Bologna, J. Boulvert, 31/01/2025

As this conference focused on innovative and sustainable acoustic materials, two ways of reducing the mass of acoustic materials and metamaterials produced using the 3D printing method of molten wire deposition were presented. These two means consist in the use of foaming yarn and the reduction of the extrusion diameter. The impact in terms of density and acoustic behaviour of the printed materials are presented.

3Dnatives - Interview

‘Sil&Add transforms acoustics with 3D printing’.

3Dnatives, Clara C., 13/08/2024

Link : https://www.3dnatives.com/sil-add-acoustique-impression-3d-14082024/

This interview published by 3DNatives discusses Sil&Add's approach to using 3D printing to develop products to combat noise. The company, headed by Jean Boulvert, uses metamaterials and additive manufacturing to develop innovative acoustic solutions. 3D printing enables Sil&Add to create materials with complex geometries and to precisely control the microstructure of porous materials, thereby optimising their acoustic performance. The advantages of this technology are also discussed, in particular the flexibility in the choice of materials and the speed of prototyping. Finally, the first product developed by Sil&Add is presented.

Primante3D - Interview

‘Meet Sil&Add, the start-up that prints silence’.

Primante3D, Alexandre Moussion, 06/07/2024

Link : https://www.primante3d.com/siladd-06072024/

This interview published by Primante3D recounts the meeting between the 3D printing media and Sil&Add, a French start-up specialising in noise reduction using 3D printing. Founded by Jean Boulvert, a doctor in acoustics, Sil&Add offers innovative solutions for acoustic materials, in particular porous metamaterials whose design and optimisation are facilitated by 3D printing. The article looks at the founder's background, his research into reducing aircraft engine noise, and how he is now using his expertise to develop high-performance, customisable acoustic products. Sil&Add is also working on products such as an acoustic window air intake canopy, which will be on the market in 2025, and stands out for its use of 3D printed materials, which are more durable and easier to maintain than conventional solutions.

Symposium on Acoustic Metamaterials 2024 - Conference

"Case study: the use of acoustic metamaterials in the design of a window air intake silencer"

SAM 2024, Aegina, J. Boulvert, 17/05/2024

This presentation at the SAM 2024 conference for doctoral students and young professionals was an opportunity to showcase the practical contribution of metamaterials in an everyday product: an acoustic window air inlet canopy. This presentation focused on the methodology for developing acoustic solutions: understanding the physics of the problem, choosing and optimising materials or metamaterials, and complying with practical constraints.
